Cape Town: Half day city tour
Visit the majestic Table Mountain and enjoy a glass of beer while having breathtaking city views
Embark on this half day city tour and see the iconic Table Mountain, District Six Museum and the Castle of Good Hope.
Pick up from your hotel is included. Our first stop will be District Six Museum
The museum was established in 1994, in the former church building of the area's community. It aims to preserve the memory of District Six and its people, showcase their stories, and educate visitors about the destructive impact of apartheid policies. The museum houses photographs, personal testimonies, and historical artifacts that provide insight into the community’s life before its destruction, as well as the trauma caused by the forced removals.
It’s a place of reflection on the past and also a symbol of resistance, as many of the displaced residents fought against the injustices they faced. The District Six Museum has become a significant cultural and historical landmark in Cape Town, drawing locals and tourists alike who wish to learn more about South Africa's apartheid history and the resilience of its people.
We then make our way to Castle of Good Hope. The Castle of Good Hope is a museum that offers visitors a deep dive into South Africa's colonial and military history. It houses a collection of historical artifacts, weaponry, and exhibitions about the country's colonial past. One of the museum's highlights is the William Fehr Collection, which includes artworks and decorative items that showcase 17th- and 18th-century life in the Cape Colony.
In addition to the museum displays, the Castle offers guided tours, including information on its military history, the fascinating architecture, and the lives of those who lived and worked there. It's also famous for its Ceremonial Guard, which provides a daily Changing of the Guard ceremony—an event that adds a sense of tradition and spectacle to the visit.
For visitors interested in the more mysterious side of the Castle, there are also tales of hauntings, as many believe the site is home to several restless spirits, adding an eerie layer to its rich history.
On this tour we use the Table Mountain Cableway which offers an incredible ride to the summit. The cable cars rotate 360 degrees as they ascend, allowing you to enjoy incredible views of the city, the ocean, and the surrounding mountains. It’s a smooth, quick way to reach the top, with the option to explore at your leisure. The mountain is rich in biodiversity, home to a unique mix of flora and fauna. The fynbos (a type of shrubland unique to the Cape) on the mountain is famous for its incredible diversity, with many species found nowhere else in the world. You'll also find animals like the rock hyrax (which, despite its appearance, is closely related to elephants), baboons, and a wide variety of bird species. Table Mountain is one of the New7Wonders of Nature, a designation that recognizes its global importance as a natural landmark. Its unique ecosystem and stunning views make it a bucket-list destination for travellers.
